Normally disaster recovery workers have limited access to short-term home rentals because of the nature of the payment requirements, need for detailed daily billing, and because recovery workers might have to leave at a moment’s notice - shifting the bill cost of a short-term lease to the responder. Deployment Lodging Services was created as a way to connect FEMA and other federal employees that are deployed to recovery operations to housing other than hotels.
We know that when you are deployed to serve a community impacted by disasters it is very difficult to find a comfortable place that has the amenities of home, but allows for the flexibility of a traditional hotel.
The need for rest in a quiet space, to make food in your own kitchen, and to bring out friends and family to help decompress from the stresses of disaster response, is often directly related to your ability to help communities recover.
